Our Shows

Anna In the Tropics

By Nilo Cruz
October 2 – 5 at 7:30 PM
Joan C. Edwards Playhouse

A poignant and poetic new play set in Florida in 1929 in a Cuban–American cigar factory, where cigars are still rolled by hand and “lectors” are employed to educate and entertain the workers. The arrival of a new lector is a cause for celebration, but when he begins to read aloud from Anna Karenina, he unwittingly becomes a catalyst in the lives of his avid listeners, for whom Tolstoy, the tropics and the American dream prove a volatile combination.

A slick and streamlined new stage adaptation of the Frankenstein saga. This genius stage adaptation of Mary Shelley’s classic science fiction story provides a disturbing yet poignant look at one man’s insatiable quest to defeat death by creating life, and the dreadful results of abandoning his creation. Written by Obie-award winning playwright Neal Bell, this provocative play gives life to an ultimate horror story of unchecked science. Monster weaves a chilling tale of rampant human ambition and ever-present human longing.

Dead Man’s Cell Phone

February 27 – March 1 at 7:30 PM
Francis-Booth Experimental Theatre

An incessantly ringing cell phone in a quiet café. A stranger at the next table who has had enough. And a dead man— with a lot of loose ends. So begins Dead Man’s Cell Phone, a wildly imaginative new comedy by Pulitzer Prize finalist, Sarah Ruhl. A work about how we memorialize the dead— and how that remembering changes us—it is the odyssey of a woman forced to confront her own assumptions about morality, redemption, and the need to connect in a technologically obsessed world.

The Taming Of The Shrew

By William Shakespeare
April 23-26 at 7:30 PM
Joan C. Edwards Playhouse

A tale of two sisters; sweet-tempered daddy’s girl Bianca can have her pick of suitors—but not until her sister, the acid-tongued Kate, can be married off. Rising to the challenge is Petruchio; an unconventional, guy of good humour and strong will, but can he match Kate jab for jab? This is Shakespeare’s masterpiece of the battle of the sexes–a surprising love story that dares to ask what roles we play . . . and, underneath, who we really are.
