According to the History of Pocahontas County, Anna May was born on a snowy day on June 1, 1910.  In an interview she stated that she was born upstairs of the Durbin Mercantile Company in Durbin, West Virginia.  She attended Shepherd College and taught in a one-room schools for six years before attending the Charleston School of Commerce.  She was employed by the State of West Virginia for 37 years before retiring in 1965.  Today, she lives in Charleston, West Virginia.  Her father was J. Hall Wilson who came to Durbin soon after the turn of the century (1900), to manage and serve as Secretary-Treasure of the newly formed Durbin Mercantile Company.
