Master Instructor

Dr. Chong Woong Kim, 8th Degree Black Belt, is an international instructor and one of the highest ranking proponents of Tae kwon Do of the United States. Master Kim has devoted himself to training and teaching the Tae Kwon Do over forty years. Because his high rank and qualification as an international master instructor were awarded by the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (Kuk-Ki Won in Seoul, Korea), all students trained under his instruction will be accredited and recognized by this federation. Hundreds of Tae Kwon Do schools exist in the United States, by means of which students can transfer their training and rank from one location to another.

Master Kim earned his First Degree Black Belt in Korea at the age of 13. He subsequently taught Tae Kwon Do throughout high school, college, and military school, then even as an officer in the Korean Army. He came to the United States in 1968 as a Master Instructor and taught first at Miami University, in Oxford, Ohio, and for the United Tae Kwon Do Association of Columbus (Columbus, Ohio), and then Rider College, in Lawrenceville, New Jersey. In 1977 he came to Huntington, West Virginia, and formed the Marshall University Tae Kwon Do Club. In 1984, he opened his main school at 801 Washington Avenue, Huntington, West Virginia. He continues to supervise a Tae Kwon Do club in Columbus, Ohio. His main school moved to its current location of 2640 Fifth Avenue in the summer of 1986.

Dr. Kim received his doctorate in organizational behavior from the Ohio State University, his M.B.A. degree from Miami University (Oxford, Ohio), and his B.A. degree from Yon Sei University in Seoul, Korea. He is a full professor and Division Head for the Division of management and Marketing at Marshall University, teaching both graduate and undergraduate students. He is an elder of the First Huntington Presbyterian Church and served on a variety of church committees. On May 22, 1983, WSAZ-TV, Channel 3, profiled Dr. Kim and his work in the martial arts on the program "Inside Look." In June of 1984 he received the Americanism Medal from the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution. He received a citation from Dr. Un Young Kim, president of the World Tae Kwon Do Federation for his outstanding contribution and promotion of Tae Kwon Do in December 1988. Dr. Kim is also a member of the Huntington Rotary Club. He served as a special assistant/advisor to the president of the United States Tae Kwon Do Union, which is a National Governing Body in the United States Olympic Committee for six years (1986-1992). Currently, he is the State President of West Virginia for U.S.T.U.
