Special ‘Thank You’ event planned for Senator Robert Plymale

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – A special event titled “Celebrate the Learning Community: A Special Thank You to Senator Robert Plymale,” will take place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22, at Kellogg Elementary School in Huntington.

The event is sponsored by the Marshall University Partnership Schools Project and Kellogg Elementary.

The purpose of the event is for the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts and MU’s Partnership Schools Program (PSP) to honor Plymale for his support of educational projects, especially the Partnerships for Teacher Quality Initiative, said Jane McKee, facilitator of the program at Marshall.

“The Partnerships for Teacher Quality Initiative is a grant that funds colleges and universities in West Virginia that prepare teachers,” McKee said. “This funding allows higher education and public education partnerships to be created to improve teacher preparation and enhance students’ learning in the classroom.”

McKee said Plymale, a Wayne County native and chair of the Education Committee in the Senate, was instrumental in Marshall receiving the grant last year with funding from the Budget Digest.

“We’re thankful to Senator Plymale for his constant and unwavering support of education in West Virginia,” McKee said. “This is an honor well deserved and we are most appreciative of his help to create these partnerships.”

Kay Goodwin, Cabinet Secretary of the West Virginia Department of Education and the Arts, will be the featured speaker at Wednesday’s event. Kellogg Elementary students will perform three songs.

Kellogg Elementary is located at 4415 Piedmont Road in Huntington’s west end. More information on the event is available by calling McKee at (304) 696-2859.
