Medical School graduates its 25th class Friday

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Marshall University Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine will mark a silver anniversary Friday with the graduation of its 25th class.

“It was just two years ago that we graduated our thousandth graduate, and now we are graduating our 25th class,” said Dr. Charles H. McKown Jr., vice president for health sciences and dean of the school of medicine. “As we have progressed toward this milestone, we have seen dramatic growth in services and research, and, commensurate with medical education nationwide, our medical education program has been evolving and improving.

“This year’s graduating class represents the pinnacle of achievement thus far, with a 100 percent pass rate on Step 2 of the National Medical Licensing Examination,” he added. “We are extremely proud of these graduates and their accomplishments, and we will follow their careers with great interest and pride.”

Marshall University President Stephen J. Kopp is the keynote speaker for the school’s doctoral investiture ceremony, which takes place Friday evening at the Joan C. Edwards Fine and Performing Arts Center.  Because seating is limited, admission is by invitation only.
