Charleston, Kanawha Valley Set To Host Sixth Annual
"Paint The Capital City Green," August 20

CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Kanawha Valley is expected to thunder with the sounds of "Herdmania" Wednesday, August 20, as Charleston rolls out the green carpet for the Sixth Annual Marshall University "Paint The Capital City Green" event, beginning at 6:15 p.m. at the Charleston Marriott. Recognized as the nation's largest pep rally for Thundering Herd alumni, fans and friends, the event is hosted by the Big Green Scholarship Foundation, Greater Kanawha Valley Marshall Club and Marshall University Alumni Association.

"The level of support Marshall University receives from its growing base of alumni and friends in Charleston and the Kanawha Valley is simply amazing," said Marshall President Dan Angel. "Last year's sold-out 'Paint The Capital City Green' was an incredible success. We look forward to building on that momentum by hosting another record crowd to help us kickoff Marshall's upcoming athletic campaigns." "Paint The Capital City Green" will begin with a pep rally and tailgate party, featuring food and entertainment by "Marco," the Marshall Cheerleaders and Marshall University pep band, under the direction of new Director of Bands Steven Barnett. A formal program will begin at 7:30 p.m., featuring remarks from special guests and a live auction of team collectibles, memorabilia and special items.

This year's event will feature the first Kanawha Valley appearance of new Marshall Men's Basketball Coach Ron Jirsa. Coach Jirsa will join Marshall  President Dan Angel, Director of Athletics Bob Marcum, Head Football Coach Bob Pruett and Women's Basketball Coach Royce Chadwick to discuss the  upcoming seasons for Marshall's athletic programs.
