Adrian Cain has been named a major gifts officer for Marshall University. Dr. Larissa Grunig, a professor at the University of Maryland, and Dr. Elizabeth Toth, a professor at Syracuse University, will give a presentation on "Women in Public Relations" Oct. 6 at Marshall University. Marshall University's Lewis College of Business will induct five local business people into its Hall of Fame Oct. 21. They are Linda Arnold, Oshel Craigo, Timothy Duke, Joseph Jefferds Jr. and Gary White. Marshall University Board of Governors members, administrators, and other dignitaries cut the ribbon for the new residence halls on Thursday, August 21, 2003. Deborah Groves has been appointed Director of Major Gifts at Marshall University. Steve Barnett is the new Director of Athletic Bands at Marshall University. Dr. Cal Kent, currently Dean of the Lewis College of Business at Marshall University, will become Vice President for Technology Commercialization and Director of IDEA (Institute for Development of Entrepreneurial Advances) effective July 15. Marshall University President Dan Angel joined other university officials to break ground for a major expansion of the Marshall University Forensic Science Center during a 10:30 a.m. ceremony, Wednesday, June 25, at the center. The facility is located adjacent to the former Fairfield Stadium, 1401 Forensic Science Drive, Huntington. Maria Ramey of Harts, W.Va., is the fifth recipient of the Charles B. and Mary Jo Locke Hedrick Scholarship to Marshall University. Two students from Ohio and eight students from West Virginia make up the
Marshall University Society of Yeager Scholars Class of 2007. Clay Stimeling, a student at Marshall University, has been named a runner-up in the Young American Broadcasters scholarship program. Brianne Erwin, a 2003 Marshall University graduate, has been named to represent the 90,000 graduates to date from Marshall. Molly Harbour Bassett, a 2001 Marshall graduate and former Yeager Scholar, has been named a Hopkins Shareholder for the 2003-2004 academic year at Harvard University Divinity School. The amount of the award will be announced in August. Marshall's GIS laboratory for geography has been named in honor of Dr. Sam Clagg (center). With him are Dr. Dan Angel, president of Marshall University (left), and Professor Larry Jarrett, chair of the geography department. Selby Wellman, a Marshall alumnus who has worked for Cisco Systems and IBM, among others, will be the commencement speaker May 10. Verizon West Virginia President Gale Given presents a check for $100,000 to Dr. Dan Angel, Marshall University President, in support of distance learning activities for school children and their teachers in primarily rural areas. Marshall University and the West Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles have unveiled a specialty license plate with the Marshall University logo. Dr. Ludmilla Selezneva, author and noted authority on Russian political affairs, will discuss recent developments in her home country during a Tuesday, Jan. 14, visit to Marshall University.
