Dr. Eric Kmiec has been named the first Director and Lead Research Scientist of the Marshall University Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (MIIR).

Dr. Laura R. McCunn, an assistant professor in Marshall University’s Department of Chemistry, has been named one of eight recipients of a Camille and Henry Dreyfus Faculty Start-up Award.

Marshall professors Dr. Richard Niles and Dr. Pier Paolo Claudio, winners of the Sebetia-Ter award in 2008 and 2007 respectively, have had leadership roles in establishing exchange agreements with universities overseas.

Dr. Barbara Becker-Cottrill, executive director of the West Virginia Autism Training Center at Marshall University, has been named co-chair of the Autism Society of America’s Panel of Professional Advisors (PPA).

Rebecca McPhail Samples has been named Assistant Vice President for Development at MU.

Dr. Gayle L. Ormiston, Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs and Curriculum at Kent State University since July 1, 2002, has been named Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost at Marshall University.

Dr. Jennifer Y. Mak, associate professor and program coordinator in the Division of Exercise Science, Sport and Recreation at Marshall University, has been named the 2008 Midwest District Scholar of the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (AAHPERD).

Dr. David J. Pittenger, Associate Provost at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga since 2004, has been named dean of Marshall University’s College of Liberal Arts.

Dr. Kevin Law, assistant professor of geography at Marshall University, recently won the John Russell Mather Paper of the Year award sponsored by the Climate Specialty Group of the Association of American Geographers.
