![]() Support for Departmental Computer Laboratories Statement: Marshall University Computing Services can offer computing laboratory support to departments on campus that may lack the technical expertise or staffing needed to accomplish the goal. In order to accomplish this, Marshall University Computing Services must be able to recapture the costs with providing this service. Purpose: This document defines the service that a department can expect if Marshall University Computing Services is to service a facility and defines the method of charging for service. Services Rendered by Marshall University Computing Services ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 1. Assistance 1.1 Set-up Will assist in the intial set-up of a computing facility. 1.2 Software Will assist with the installation of software for intial set-up and for future software installations upon receipt of a writen request. Some software will be set-up directly on the local hard drive of the PC and other software will be installed on networked drives depending upon the circumstance. 1.3 Maintenance Will perform software/imaging tasks as needed. 1.4 Equipment Will contact manufacturer about equipment problems when necessary or upon request and follow through until the problem is resolved. Please note, Marshall University Computing Services does not repair computers. Computer repair is done through the computer manufacturer or another vendor. 1.5 Consulting Will provide consulting in the purchase of new equipment. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Network 2.1 Maintenance MUCS will maintain all network connections in a computing facility. 2.2 Installation MUCS will coordinate the installation of networking in a computing facility. 2.3 Accounting Will create an account for each machine to identify users and computers on the network for security reasons. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 3. Response time Will respond to a service request within four hours for problems reported. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 4. Departmental Responsibilities 4.1 Supervision Will provide supervison of the computing facility 4.2 Inventory Will create and maintain an inventory of the computing facility’s hardware and software. 4.3 Security Will be responsible for issuing and keeping records of keys, access to the facility and the general security of the facility. 4.4 Schedules Coordinate schedules of lab use and manages reservations. 4.5 Financial Will be financially responsible for all costs associated with the purchase and maintenance of all hardware and software in the facility as well as any capital costs for laboratory set-up. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5. Billing 5.1 Rate Marshall University Computing Services will be compensated at $25/hour for requested services. 5.2 Billing Cycle The Department requesting services will be billed monthly with an itemized invoice for actual time and services performed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6. Contract ______________________________________________contracts with Marshall University Computing Services to perform computer facility maintenance as agreed upon in the text of this document. The fee for initial set-up of computing, software and/or networking is $___________. This agreement is for the time period of_____________ to_______________ .
