Marshall University’s Week of Welcome (WOW) gets under way today with two events involving incoming students and their families occurring back to back.
The Freshman Academic Convocation is from 5 to 5:45 p.m. in the Cam Henderson Center arena, and the family picnic follows from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on the Memorial Student Center plaza. Freshmen and their families are invited to attend both events.
Speakers at the convocation, in the following order, include Student Body President E.J. Hassan; football Coach Doc Holliday; Dr. Kateryna Schray, a professor of English and the Outstanding Faculty Award winner for 2012-2013; and Marshall President Dr. Stephen J. Kopp. Robert Wray, assistant professor of music, will lead the singing of the alma mater after Hassan speaks, and Provost Dr. Gayle Ormiston will introduce the deans to the students after Holliday’s remarks.
Two important events take place back to back Thursday morning, Aug. 22. UNI 100 Freshman First Class is from 8:30 to 9:15 a.m. in the Henderson Center arena, followed by the class photo from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. on the arena floor.
