‘Anna in the Tropics’ from Theatre Alliance starts Oct. 2

AnnaintheTropics_squareThe Marshall Theatre Alliance will present “Anna in the Tropics,” a play by Nilo Cruz, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 2, and continuing nightly through Saturday, Oct. 5 in the Joan C. Edwards Performing Arts Center on the Huntington campus.

Winner of the 2003 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, the drama is set in in 1929 in a Cuban-American cigar factory, where cigars are still rolled by hand and “lectors” are employed to educate and entertain the workers. The arrival of a new lector is a cause for celebration, but when he begins to read aluoud from Anna Karenina, he unwittingly becomes a catalyst in the lives of his avid listeners, for whom Tolstoy, the tropics and the American dream prove a volatile combination.

Tickets are $20 and $15 for Marshall faculty and staff. Marshall students are admitted with a valid ID.
