The Marshall University Chamber Choir, under the direction of Dr. David Castleberry, will present a concert of choral music spanning five centuries at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 19, in Smith Recital Hall.
The performance will feature music from the choir’s recent concert tour to Atlanta and includes sacred music, folk songs and new compositions. Selections include music of Mozart, Brahms, Ravel and many others, while the program’s centerpiece is a set of songs by American composer Jeffrey Van, who set four poems by Walt Whitman to music for choir and guitar.
Dr. Julio Alves, guitarist, who accompanied the choir on tour in these selections, will join the group for this performance as well.
“These are beautiful, emotionally powerful pieces that the choir and our audiences have found particularly meaningful,” Castleberry said.
The Chamber Choir is a select group of 31 singers who have traveled and recorded extensively. In the spring of 2016, the choir plans a 12-day performance tour to Spain.
The concert is free and open to the public.
