Thundering Word to perform speech and debate showcase April 10

Members of the Thundering Word speech and debate team will prepare for the National Forensic Association (NFA) National Tournament by performing for the home crowd in a speech and debate showcase Friday, April 10.

The event is free to the public, although personal hygiene items will be collected at the door with all proceeds benefiting the Huntington City Mission. The showcase begins at 7:30 p.m. and takes place in Corbly Hall 105.

Thundering Word members will perform prose, poetry, persuasive orations and more during the showcase.

In mid-March, the Thundering Word placed sixth in Individual Event Sweepstakes at the Pi Kappa Delta National Convention Tournament held on the campus of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Marshall placed 10th in Debater Sweepstakes and 10th overall in the national competition.

Senior Victoria Ledford placed sixth in Individual Event Sweepstakes at the Pi Kappa Delta tournament. Ledford, who received the All-American award, said the team’s performance proved that the Thundering Word is loaded with talent, despite being small in numbers.

“Our squad is small with only 11 members, but we showed the national circuit that talent and performance trumps size any day of the week,” Ledford said.

The NFA National Tournament begins on Wednesday, April 15, at Ohio University.
