Marshall University invites new students, including freshmen and transfers, to join us for Welcome Weekend 2009. Welcome Weekend is designed to help students "settle in" prior to the beginning of classes. During this weekend, students will learn important information about the campus through interactions with the University staff and with other new students. All new students, both on-campus and commuter students, are invited to start their college careers at Marshall by attending Welcome Weekend.
A detailed schedule of activities will be provided to participants upon their arrival. An invitation to attend will be mailed to all students in early August.

Attention Commuter Students! During Welcome Weekend, we would like to invite you to try out our Harless Dining Hall for FREE! Tickets will be available at the Commuter Student Reception in the Memorial Student Center Lobby on Friday, August 21, from 3:30 - 4:30pm. Tickets will also be available throughout the weekend activities, so please locate a Marshall Welcome Weekend staff member and ask for a free meal ticket! You can present your ticket for one of the following meals:
- Saturday, August 22: Brunch (11:00am - 1:30pm) or Dinner (4:00 - 7:00pm)
- Sunday, August 23: Brunch (11:00am - 1:30pm) or Student Picnic (5:30 - 7:00pm)

Friday, August 21
Residence Hall Check-In. (Students will be advised on a suggested time for their move-in to their residence hall by mail in early August. Halls will open at 9:00 am.) For residence hall students with a meal plan, Harless Dining Hall will be open for brunch and dinner on Saturday, August 22, and open for brunch on Sunday, August 23.
Immunization Clinic. Campus Recreation Center, Noon - 5:00pm.
Commuter Student Reception. Memorial Student Center Lobby, 3:30 - 4:30pm.
Family Picnic. Buskirk Field adjacent to Memorial Student Center Plaza, 4:30 - 6:30pm. All new students and their families are invited to attend.
Commuter Ice Cream Social. Twin Towers East Dining Hall, 8:00pm - 9:00pm.
Late Nite @ the Rec. Campus Recreation Center, 8:30pm to Midnight. This event will include the Climbing Wall, Wally Ball and a Dive-In Movie (movie selection TBA).
Saturday, August 22
Campus offices will be open on the following schedule:
- Admissions, 10:00am - 2:00pm
- Bursar, 10:00am - 4:00pm
- Campus ID, 10:00am - 4:00pm
- Financial Aid, 10:00am - 2:00pm
- Parking, 10:00am - 2:00pm
- Registrar, 10:00am - 2:00pm
- Recruitment/Welcome Center, 10:00am - 2:00pm
RecFest '09. Campus Recreation Center, 10:00am - 4:00pm. This event will include vendors, games and other competitions with food, drinks, and prizes.
Bus Transportation to Local Retail Locations. Transportation begins at noon. The bus will leave from the Student Center loop and travel to Target, Wal-Mart, then back to the Student Center. The last bus will return to the Student Center at 6:00pm. Each student participating will be entered in a drawing to win several prizes including a mini-fridge, TV, iPod, and school supplies. Drawing will take place at 8:15 pm during the Welcome Weekend Tailgate (see below). Winners must be present.
Tennis Party. University Tennis Courts, 4:15pm.
Welcome Weekend Tailgate. Memorial Student Center Plaza (Rain Location MSC Lobby), 8:00 - 10:00pm. This event includes food, drinks, a live DJ, cornhole and prizes.
Sunday, August 23
Campus offices will be open on the following schedule:
- Bursar, 12:00pm - 3:00pm
- Campus ID, 12:00pm - 4:00pm
- Parking, 12:30pm - 2:30pm
- Registrar, 12:30pm - 2:30pm
Class Schedule Walk-Through. Meet at Memorial Student Center Plaza at 1:00pm.
President's Freshman Convocation. Keith-Albee Theater. Students will meet at the Memorial Student Center Plaza at 2:30pm.
College of Education and Human Services Meet & Greet Reception. Memorial Student Center John Spotts Room (on the 2nd Floor). 4:00pm - 5:00pm. The College of Education and Human Services is sponsoring a Meet & Greet Reception for their new students and faculty members. There will be light refreshments.
Residence Hall Picnic. Harless Dining Hall Courtyard, 5:30pm.
Monday, August 24
Classes Begin at 8:00am.
