In My Own Words

At the beginning of my freshman year I decided to join WMUL because I wanted to acquaint myself with the J-school early, and give myself something to do in my spare time. I began as an Alternative DJ and Newsbrief reporter. During the first news meeting I decided I wanted to be the News Director by my senior year. It’s easy to see that I’m not one to waste any time. I was soon making news packages weekly, reporting sports and weather, and generally staying busy at the station past midnight. Then I decided to take Intro to Audio Production and found myself doing just about everything there is to do at the station. That’s when people suggested I should just bring a sleeping bag.

Outside of that, I love school in general and all the opportunities it provides. I report, produce, and anchor for Marshall's television news program, MU Report, and do the same for Marshall's daily television news update, Up to the Minute. I'm also the president of Marshall's chapter of the National Broadcasting Society. I'm currently interning at WSAZ too.

I also love sports. I grew up playing basketball, but now-a-days I just watch a ton of sports and get my athletic fix from working like a maniac. I would also be considered a health nut were it not for all the chocolate I eat.

I love the people I've met at WMUL; my friends mean the world to me. I also love keeping busy-- I may come off as a little too serious when you first meet me, but once you get to know me I'm a huge goofball. I do, however, have a ton of goals and I'm so thankful for all the opportunities that I've found at WMUL. It's given me the opportunity to win more than 20 awards and subsequently, taken me to Austin, Dallas, and Las Vegas.

My best advice to aspiring journalists it to get involved, give 100% and take advantage of every opportunity-if you have that sort of initiative you can do whatever you want to do. My second best advice is to habe fun and make friends along the way.
