By working for WMUL, I've been blessed to go to Texas, Oklahoma, and even Cancun, Mexico and all places in-between. These are opportunities other colleges across the country simply do not offer. We have a great group of people who oversee the station and our equipment is better than that of most commercial stations. Having worked professionally, I know this first hand.
I am the host of the Tri-State High School Football Report in the fall, not to be confused with the Tri-State High School Sports Report in the spring. Might as well put my useless knowledge of high school athletics to use, right?
As far as a life away from the station, what life away from the station? Haha, just kidding. I am a stringer for the Herald-Dispatch, covering high school basketball. I work for the large local radio conglomerate as a fill-in host of Sports Talk in drive-time as well as fill-in play-by-play for various high schools. I have also done play-by-play for the University of North Carolina-Greensboro as a fill-in on the Spartan Sports Radio Network. I do the public address announcing for Wayne High School sporting events. I also do radio work for a public station in southern Wayne County. Essentially, I'm at a ballgame almost six nights a week, and I wouldn't have it any other way. I did play-by-play of Spring Valley High School on its radio network before they decided to switch companies after one season. I learned more in that year than I had known from my previous experience.
I was the 2005 National Association of Sports Public Address Announcers national winner for Most Outstanding Announcer in the college student category, as well as the state winner. I got my interest in sports keeping the scoreboard at Wayne High School Football games starting when I was nine years old. By my junior year, I was doing public-address announcing.
I am also a movie star. Ok, that might be slightly exaggerated, but like almost everyone in Huntington, I appear in We Are Marshall for a good 5-6 seconds, walking to the Xavier game. I'm in the trailer for the movie as well...you can see me point to the right as the kid says "Gameday". You can leave autograph requests in my box at the station and I'll get them back to you in 4-6 weeks.
And before I forget...Wayne High School, 2006 West Virginia Class AA Football Champions. Go Pioneers.
I enjoy, obviously, sports, but even beyond that, I simply enjoy being around people. Be it road trips, sporting events, activities, picnics, whatever, I'm up for pretty anything at anytime. I don't want to miss any oportunity that presents itself, because you never know if that will be the only chance you ever have to do something. That's why I pack as much as I can possibly fit into my day. Sure, I have some long nights studying because of it, but I would not trade it for anything. Also, I enjoy going to church and being in fellowship with my brothers and sisters in Christ.
Oh yeah, I go to class too.
