Microwaves and other cooking appliances are not allowed in the on-campus dormitory rooms.

Many students bring a laptop computer from their country. There are free internet high-speed connections in every on-campus dormitory room. You will need to have your computer configured by our Computer Center in order to use your computer for internet use in the dormitory.

Keep in mind that if you bring an electrical appliance, such as a hair dryer or laptop computer, that electrical requirements in the USA are 110V. You can find adapters in local stores.

You may want to buy a cell phone after you arrive. Students living on-campus in the Marshall Commons dormitory, receive free cell phone service. For other students in Twin Towers or off-campus, we recommend that you get a cell phone after you arrive at a local store. A basic nationwide plan will cost about $30 per month for unlimited weekend and evening minutes and about 200 to 300 anytime weekday minutes. You may need to pay a deposit and make a contract for a minimum of one year. A basic cell phone will usually cost $50 to $100, or may be included free with the plan.

We recommend that you purchase a pre-paid international calling card or internet call service in order to keep in touch with your family and friends back home in your country. You can search the internet for the best deals and order your cards or service online.

If you like, you can send items in advance from your country to the on-campus dormitory. You should make sure it arrives about the same time that you arrive.
