6 * Every Bloodstained MileEvery Bloodstained Mile
Time: 7:00 pm
MU Foundation Hall: No history of West Virginia is complete without the story of the discovery of coal, the opening of the “Billion Dollar Coal Field” and the railroad that transported that coal to market. The N&W Railroad changed the face and nature of southern West Virginia. Built between Bluefield and Kenova, the N&W brought boom towns, tent villages, speculators, adventurers, women of questionable virtue, and highwaymen. It was an exciting, if not dangerous, time. Mr. Dickinson will talk about the building of the N&W from 1890 to 1958, the end of the steam locomotive.
