Faculty

Because of its unique history, from its earliest beginnings in the late 1970s the Graduate Humanities Program developed an unusual collaborative of diversely trained faculty hailing from the West Virginia College of Graduate Studies (which became the Marshall University Graduate College in South Charleston in 1997), West Virginia State University, the University of Charleston, and several other colleges and universities based in south central West Virginia.

Today, the range of institutional experience and disciplinary expertise continues to have a critical bearing on the multidisciplinary culture of the Program. The Director and other full time faculty are jointly appointed in other Marshall University departments or colleges (such as the College of Liberal Arts and the Graduate School of Education and Professional Development). Most of the Program’s Graduate Instructors and affiliated faculty are full-time professors at other institutions: some of these faculty have worked in the Program since its inception.

Graduate students thus work with faculty in a variety of institutional, research, and instructional contexts, engendering a broad and diverse range of seminars, collaborative projects, publications and creative endeavors.
