The Marshall Community will never forget what happened 41 years ago on November 14. A plane carrying members of the 1970 Thundering Herd Football team crashed just before its landing at Tri -State Airport. Marshall University would never be the same.
Marshall students, faculty, staff and alumni are encouraged to attend the annual Plane Crash Memorial Ceremony held tomorrow at 11 a.m. till 12 p.m. on the Memorial Student Center Plaza honoring the lives of those 75 lost in such a horrific tragedy.
Student Body President Ray Harrell said he believes it is a student’s honorable duty to attend tomorrow.
“I encourage you all, as Sons and Daughters of the Marshall Family, to take an hour out of your day and join us in remembering this tragic event. It is of utmost importance that we continue to honor the victims and their families and I am hopeful that you will be able to take part in doing so,” Harrell said.
During the ceremony, member of the Young Thundering Herd, Rick Meckstroth will be speaking. There will also be addresses from Governor Earl Ray Tomblin and Student Body President Ray Harrell.
