The West Virginia Senior and Junior Academies of Science will meet together for the first time in 25 years!

This year the annual meetings of the West Virginia Academy of Science (WVAS) and the West Virginia Jr. Academy of Science will be jointly held! The Jr. Academy oversees the annual WV State Science and Engineering Fair (WVSSEF), the state-wide science fair open to all students in grades 9-12.

Both the WVAS and the WVSSEF will be hosted by Marshall University on March 30 and 31, 2007, and these events will run concurrently. The occasion will begin with a reception for the WVAS and the WVSSEF participants on Friday. One exciting opportunity will be having the WVAS poster session overlap with the open house for viewing WVSSEF exhibits! This will allow WVAS members to find out what WV’s young scientists are doing and to encourage their work; it will also allow Fair participants a chance to interact with scientists from around the state and learn about ongoing research at WV institutes of higher education. The two units of the WVAS will hold a joint Awards Ceremony, which will include presentation of the WVSSEF category and special awards as well as WVAS undergraduate and graduate student awards.
