The Report on the Future
he
Ad Hoc Committee on the Future of Marshall University was charged
with engaging the university community in a dialogue to accomplish
the following:
- Create a focused vision on the future of
the university.
- Create tangible goals that can be of use
in meeting political and fundraising objectives.
Marshall University president J. Wade Gilley
appointed 24 members of the Marshall community representing faculty,
staff, administration and students to the committee. The committee
was asked to review the following areas:
- Make recommendations of the desirable size
of the institution.
- Look at new and innovative academic programs.
- If Marshall’s new role as a major graduate
institution is to be sustained and enhanced, what are the implications
for both undergraduate and graduate education?
- Develop a list of high priority capital
projects.
- Assess Marshall’s tuition and fee structure.
Look at faculty and staff and recommend strategies for augmenting
compensation.
- Review the university governance structure.
- The question of securing the university’s
advances in promoting diversity.
- What changes should be made in Marshall’s
student life programs?
- A plan to facilitate the future growth and
development of libraries and information services at Marshall.
- Longer term plans for the university athletic
programs
