Vision 2020: The Report on the Future of Marshall University

Desirable Size of the Institution

The committee supports sustained and controlled growth of the institution. Any growth should allow resources to keep pace with the growing size of the student body. When establishing enrollment guidelines, the university also should commit to the goal that current programs be supported at financial levels comparable to our Southern Region Education Board (SREB) peers.

A total Huntington-based campus population of 16,000 students and a total university population, including the South Charleston campus, regional centers and on-line students, of 20 to 25,000 students is certainly a reasonable goal. Increasing the residential population has an important economic impact for the downtown Huntington area. However, residential growth will have to be tied to the construction of university approved housing through public/private partnerships.
