Capital Projects

The committee supports the current construction projects already underway (or to get underway soon) on the campus which include the JOMIE Jazz Center, Morrow renovations, Memorial Plaza, stadium expansion, and the construction of the Point Pleasant Center.

The committee also endorses the numerous projects which are in the planning and development stage. These projects include the biomedical and science building, visual arts building, recreation center, the Beckley learning center, parking garage, additional Teays Valley offices and a building for the Community and Technical College.

The committee endorses the public/private partnerships which are providing additional student housing and the child care facility. Such partnerships could also lead to the construction of a baseball stadium to be used jointly by the City of Huntington and Marshall University. The committee recommends that joint public/private or public/public partnerships be used whenever feasible for the expansion of both the South Charleston and Huntington campuses.

The committee recommends a plan be created which allows every classroom at Marshall University to have access to new teaching technologies which includes computer access, computer projection systems and video access. In the very long term, the committee members suggest major renovations to Gullickson Hall, completion of a comprehensive fine arts facility, an alumni conference center and the purchase and renovation of the Keith-Albee Theatre.
