Over the past year, our Chapter has accomplished numerous service and fundraising projects as well as allowing time for social events. We began our year early in the summer by cleaning the building used to house the Marching Band equipment so that incoming Freshmen would have a positive impression of the Marching Thunder. Each year we organize, distribute, and maintain the Marching Band uniforms. During Band Camp, our duties included behind the scenes work such as distributing water, placing yard markers, picking up trash on the practice field, and welcoming the Freshmen to Marshall University's Marching Thunder. However, our activities are not only concentrated to the Marching Band. The Chapter passes out programs for the Bands of the Music Department. Fixing music stands and moving equipment are among the minor projects our organization completes each year. In the Spring, seven people completed a rigorous membership education program and entered our Chapter as Brothers. The major fundraiser for the year was supervising the production and sale of the Marching Thunder T-Shirts. Car washes, selling gloves, as well as several other fundraisers help provide funds for the Chapter. After the hard work has been completed, we allow ourselves some time to socialize amongst each other. Most of our social events occur close to the kitchen of a fellow Brother's house or dining at a nearby restaurant. However, we still find time to put the food aside as we visit the nearby ice rink, pool hall, or bowling alley. This year the Chapter had many opportunities to visit other Chapters through band travel and organized trips. The members had a chance to visit Appalachian State University when the Herd Football team played there. During the Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments, several members were able to travel to Greensboro, North Carolina, and Boulder, Colorado, meeting many Brothers throughout the country. In February, Marshall had the honor of hosting a Block meeting for our District to discuss information pertaining to the District Convention to be held in April. Many members will get the opportunity to travel to Ashland, Ohio, to attend this Convention. As the year comes to a close, we remember the activities of the past year yet we look forward to another year of "Striving for the Highest."
