Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges
Each year outstanding students on the Marshall campus are selected to become members of "Who's Who in American Universities and Colleges." Nomination to Who's Who is an honor in itself and the criteria for selection allows the University's "Cream of the Crop" in it's scholars and leaders to be recognized on a national level.
Coordinated by the Office of Student Activities and Greek Affairs, the selection criteria encompass several areas.
Scholarship is based solely on the overall grade point average (GPA) of the nominee. The area of Leadership carries the most overall weight with membership and leadership positions in various campus and off-campus organizations being assessed. Volunteer Service is an important area of evaluation that the selection committee will look at. The candidates commitment to service is an important criteria in the overall selection.
The area of Achievement is scored based on membership in honorary societies, the receipt of competitive scholarships and awards, and participation in research, athletics, or other significant achievements. The final area of assessment is the Special Consideration criteria. This category allow individuals who have been successful university student scholars and leaders to be evaluated on achievements not covered in other criteria areas. Some of those criteria include (but are not limited to) participating in the military, raising a family while going to college, working while a student, or participating in the HELP program.
