The Notoriously Nasty Nu Beta Chapter of Omega
Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated of the "Ferocious Fourth-D" lived
up to the standards set by their founding members Honorable Brother Dr.
Ernest E. Just, Honorable Brother Bishop Edgar A. Love, Honorable Brother
Dr. Oscar J. Cooper, and Honorable Brother Professor Frank Coleman. In 1996-97
Nu Beta Chapter observed their
25th Anniversary and continued to uphold its reputation
for service and participation throughout the Marshall and Huntington Community.
Following the four key cardinal principles set
out on November 17, 1911, Nu Beta Chapter of Marshall University continues
to excel and exemplify what "Omega" is all about. The first of
these principles is Christian Manhood. Under this cardinal principle, the
brothers of the Nu Beta Chapter exemplify the qualities
that are required in being an Omega man. By attending local
churches together and sharing the word of God amongst one another, Nu Beta
has passed the rich Omega tradition of creating strong young men and living
up to the Christian manhood principles and beliefs. Nu Beta has actively
participated in the Big Brothers/ Big Sisters Program at Young Chapel AME
Church. Through the outreach program, Nu Beta has served the programs as
mentors and tutors to Huntington area youth. Additionally, the Bruz participate
in activities twice a month with the youth in order to keep them involved
in positive ways.
Scholarship attainment is the second of the four principles. Before and after becoming a member of the fraternity, scholarship attainment is vital. If a young man does not aspire to high scholarship in classes or in everyday life, he could not possibly help the Nu Beta chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated better serve and aid the community and the youth. Nu Beta Chapter members aspire to become lawyers, dentists, doctors, educators, and businessmen.
