Scholarship attainment is the second of the four principles. Before and after becoming a member of the fraternity, scholarship attainment is vital. If a young man does not aspire to high scholarship in classes or in everyday life, he could not possibly help the Nu Beta chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated better serve and aid the community and the youth. Nu Beta Chapter members aspire to become lawyers, dentists, doctors, educators, and businessmen.

In February, 1997 two of our brothers attended the National Panhellenic Council(NPHC) Leadership Forum in Indianapolis to learn more about unity and community. There were many critical points that were discussed during the forum that brothers DeWayne Lewis and Andre O'Neal brought back to discuss with our chapter and others in the Marshall Greek community. At that same weekend, the bruz witnessed history. The Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Incorporated was inducted into the NPHC. The Council was then nicknamed "The Divine Nine" instead of the "Big-8". Andre' & DeWayne had the opportunity to interact with the members and several of their founders.

Perseverance through all things is the third cardinal principle. With perseverance, Nu Beta has overcome many obstacles and achieved many goals. During the Spring '97 semester Brothers Larry Harris and Andre' O'Neal were candidates for Marshall University's 97-98 Student Body President and Vice-President. The dog team ran a great race and involved people from many different sectors of the University community. Throughout the grueling election, they persevered through all things. The end result awarded the Presidency to another campaign camp, but the Bruz raised issues that were heard by the administration and other campaign tickets which will help to make positive changes across campus.
