The 85th Anniversary of the fraternity brought
together Psi Beta Beta graduate chapter and Nu Beta undergraduate chapter.
The chapters celebrated Founder's Day with a formal
program with Brother William Redd speaking on the fraternity's growth and
vision for the future.
Those in attendance were welcomed by Basileus Larry Harris, Spring '94. Brother Joe Allen gave an overview of the fraternal history.
Each of the Founders were recognized by Nu Beta
members. Brother Thomas Maxwell (Spring '94) recognized the Late Most Honorable
Brother Dr. Ernest E. Just; Brother Joe Allen specified the contributions
of the Late Most Honorable Brother Bishop Edgar A. Love; the Late Most Honorable
Brother Oscar J. Cooper was celebrated by Brother DeWayne Lewis; and Brother
Andre' O'Neal honored the Late Most Honorable Brother Professor Frank Coleman.
Each of the lives of these distinguished gentlemen was celebrated, not only
to the founding and
establishment of
Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., but to their
outstanding
contributions to society as a whole.
Further celebrations were added in song and poetry by Brother Andre' O'Neal, Brother DeWayne Lewis, and Brother Kenny Hale (Fall '74).
Keynote speaker, local attorney, Brother William L Redd. Brother Redd is a member of the "10th Degree" in the Spring '71, the first line to cross at the Marshall campus. Brother Redd discussed with great pride the history of Omega Psi Phi, Nu Beta Chapter and his memories of becoming and being an Omega at Marshall. He relayed the importance of remembering the history and tradition of the fraternity, but also emphasized the new directions that the fraternity is going.
The Brothers closed the ceremony by singing the
Omega hymn.
