Imagine yourself walking through the decades... taming the western Virginia frontier; losing friends, classmates, and family in every war since the mid-1800's; closing the doors during the Civil War; surviving the depression; growing up in the age of the Baby Boom and Cold War; witnessing the history of the Civil Rights Movement and the protests of the Vietnam War; mourning the tragic plane crash of a proud Green and White football team and loyal Herd supporters; and experiencing the exhilaration of graduation and starting your new life....

An early spring beckoned professors and students to hold classes outside in the warm sunshine.

The Union School was relocated to campus in April 1995. The Marshall University One-Room School Museum is meant to illustrate West Virginia's rural education heritage and celebrates Marshall's history as a teacher training institution. Thousands of teachers have been trained at Marshall and have assumed their role in the education of children across West Virginia and the nation.
