The Voice of the Students
By: Nawar W. Shora, Marshall University Student Body President 1996-97
The Student Government Association during the year of 1996-97
achieved a number of
accomplishments to help
others, more specifically the students of Marshall University.
The primary and most important goal for session 49 was
to have the course evaluations made available for students to review. Though,
the Student Government Association (SGA) worked all year on realizing this
goal, it came to an unsatisfactory end after being presented to the faculty
senate.
Nonetheless, Matt Glover, Student Body
President for 1997-98 has promised to continue striving to achieve this
goal that can raise Marshall's academic standards and improve the attitude
of it's students and faculty.
Session 49, did accomplish a number of other
projects that served the students. For two years in a row, the
SGA started a volunteer drive to provide aid to the less fortunate who were
struck by the treacherous floods. SGA sponsored the drive and bought a number
of supplies from it's personal fund. We also did a food donation drive during
the holiday season.
In addition, we sponsored the annual Red Cross Blood Donation Drive, which helps add to the always needed blood for the Red Cross. In order to entice more student participation, SGA gave prizes to the dorm floor that had the most volunteers, and the fraternity or sorority that had the most volunteers.
