| From plays and movie nights to forums and soul food,
students, faculty and staff participated in a variety of Black History
Month events on campus.
February is celebrated as Black History Month. Fran L. Jackson, program assistant II for the Center for African American Students, said the events for the month are planned by the center, the Black United Students and others. "We try to get the students involved as much as possible," Jackson said. "We want to get the programs they want." Success of past events helps determine what will happen in the next year, along with student opinions. Jackson said the activities are intended to help educate people about black history and heritage. "We should be aware and continue to learn about our history," Jackson said. "Although February is the shortest month, we put in as much as we can." According to a list from Adam Martin, former president of Black United Students, activities included movie nights, Black Greek Organization day, a talent night, a faculty, staff and student forum and a play called "Off To The Races," about being judged by appearance.
