disABILITY AWARENESS WEEK
Marshall University's School of Journalism, Multicultural Affairs and International Programs, along with Disabled Student Services and WSAZ, sponsored a week devoted to disability awareness.

April 3-6 was filled with activities for people to learn and get involved.

The week started Monday with Program Displays. This gave people the opportunity to meet and talk with those who provide services to persons with disabilities on campus and in the Huntington community. Those present included: Disabled Student Services, HELP, Rehabilitation Services, Prestera Mental Health Services, Mountain State Centers for Independent Living and Cabell-Wayne Association for the Blind.

Tuesday, John Hockenberry, NBC News Correspondent, spoke on campus. A book signing and reception followed his presentation.

Making Academic Accommodations was Wednesday. This was a panel discussion with faculty, students and staff. They discussed the issues to consider when making reasonable accommodations in the classroom and with programs.

The festivities ended Thursday with Resume Preparation. Joe Marshman, MU Career Services, and Jerry Coleman, Rehab Services, helped the students prepare resumes and discussed the issues of disclosing disabilities and how to handle job interviews.
