Team, Students, and Community Deal with Shock

On April 20, 1998, Marshall University Football player Kemba Bryant, 21 of Riverdale, Georgia, was killed when the 1994 Chevrolet Tahoe he was riding in was involved in a single car accident. Three other football players Juwuane R. Sandridge, 18 (Hagerstown, Maryland), Maurice Hines, 20 (East Point, Georgia) and Lamar Martin, 20 (Oak Hill, West Virginia) who were also in the car with Bryant were treated and released.

Sandridge was driving the Tahoe on Interstate 64 in Morehead, Kentucky when he lost control of the car at 9:23 a.m. Bryant, who was in the backseat and was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle as it overturned several times after bumping the guardrails.

A memorial service was held for Bryant on Tuesday, April 21, 1998, at 7 p.m. in the Marshall University Campus Christian Center.
