Marshall Wins MAC!

Marshall Wins Championship First Year Back

A capacity crowd of 28, 021 cheering Marshall football fans packed into the James C. Edwards Marshall University stadium to watch the Thundering Herd take on the University of Toledo for the Mid-American Conference Championship.

From the very beginning of Marshall's return to the Mid-American Conference no one thought the Herd had a chance of finding themselves in the championship. In fact, many had gone so far as to claim Toledo the champions of the conference title before the game had even been played. Maybe they should have know the Herd always comes to the stadium to play football. The team plays even harder when considered underdog.

Marshall went on to prove the critics wrong. Toledo played good football, but the team was no match again the Herd. Chad Pennington had 322 passing yards for the evening and Larry McCloud recorded 14 tackles. But the Pennington/Moss connection could not be stopped. Chad Pennington and Randy Moss connected for 3 touchdown passes, leading to the Herd's 34-14 championship title win. Making the Herd's first year back in the Mid-American conference a little sweeter for everyone involved.

Marshall University's MAC win ensured them a place at the inaugural Motor City Bowl in Pontiac, Michigan.
