Harambee, taken from the African dialect means "coming together" and the Center for African-American Students tried to get everyone to gather and celebrate their first ever 'Harambee'. The Center decided to use harambee as a time for students, faculty and staff to gather together with students to socialize and learn from one another.
Students, faculty and staff acted out skits about ways to get the most out of the university. Sororities and fraternities set up informational booths so potential members could speak to members and explore the Greek option. Those who showed up were given the opportunity to just talk to students and meet new people.
The event was so successful that plans have already begun for celebrating harambee again next year. | |||||||
