Marshall Wins MAC Title

Thundering Herd Champions first year back in MAC

After winning the Mid-American Conference Championship, the Marshall University Thundering Herd, its students and devoted fans found themselves at the Silverdome cheering for the team one more time. Marshall University took its MAC Conference win and fans to Pontiac, Michigan to face the University of Mississippi at the inaugural Motor City Bowl.

This was only the Thundering Herd's second appearance in a bowl game, the first was back in 1948 when Marshall played Catawba in the Tangerine Bowl. On that day the Herd lost to Catawba, 7 - 0.

The Thundering Herd came out and played their usual line of tough football, but the team from Mississippi was just able to slip past the Herd on this occasion winning 34-31.

The game may not have gone in favor of Marshall on this evening, but just wait until next year.
