|
After almost twenty years out of the MAC, it is finally official. Marshall University has returned to the Mid-American Conference with a thunder.
The history between Marshall University and the Mid-American Conference has been long and rich. Those who remember the Marshall University Athletic Department from years ago, recall that Marshall was expelled from the Mid-American Conference. There were a variety of reasons behind this expulsion, among them, the then inadequate sporting facilities as decided by Mid-American Conference standards.
The university tried to appeal the Mid-American Conference expulsion several times. The years after Marshall was removed from the conference, the athletic department tried to get reinstated in the conference and the Mid-American conference denied the request for various reasons, among them again the condition |
of the sporting facilities which the MAC stilled ruled were out of its standards. The next year the Mid-American Conference extended an invitation to Marshall to rejoin the conference and that year, Marshall decided not to rejoin the conference.
The university and the conference parted paths, then almost twenty years later Marshall decided to rejoin the conference again. The Mid-American Conference and Marshall University decided to give each other another chance to work together.
As Marshall's first year back in the Mid-American Conference draws to a close, many fans have agreed or disagreed with the school's decision to rejoin a conference which at one time felt it inferior to other schools. But no one can say that the Marshall athletic department and sports have not proved to the MAC that this is where the university belongs. | |||
