Marshall Student GovernmentThe Year in Review.... And What a Year it Was!
|
It was a year beyond all other years and one of the most controversial that the Student Government Association has faced in recent years.
The 1997-98 Student Government Association was run under the leadership of President R. Matthew Glover and Vice-President J. J. Spichek. The year started off on a positive note as the two promised to the student body to do all that they could to better the student life on campus.
Under Glover and Spichek the Student Government Association took part in many activities both on and off the campus. The SGA helped Student Affairs and Student Activities by participating in the Thunder in the Mountains Pep Rally held during the beginning of the school year. The SGA recognized faculty and staff who had been chosen from the leadership of the association. During Homecoming the current SGA invited past presidents and vice-presidents back to the campus for a |
Student Government Reunion.
The Student Government Association also had its share of difficulties over the past year. Controversy began as Glover fired one of the Public Relations executives and the second soon resigned. Suspicions were raised about the eligibility of one senator when it was discovered she had not been registered for classes at the end of the Fall semester. Public arguments during Student Government meetings between Glover and another senator had students questioning the effectiveness of the organization. The state of the Student Government Association as a whole was in doubt as senators began asking for Glover to step down as president or face the possibility of impeachment.
Presidencies come and go and the Spring elections bought with them new leadership in the form of President, Jeff "MacKenzie" Howard and Vice President, Susan Porter.
