Herd Rock from the Sun: Other-worldly activities kick off this year's Springfest

Spring is here and so is the annual Marshall University Springfest. The Student Activities Programming Board is proud to present Springfest 1998, "Herd Rock From the Sun." The week begins Monday, April 13 and commences with the Springfest/WAMX Anniversary Concert on Saturday, April 18.

The Ultimate Psychic Fair kicks off Springfest Monday on the Memorial Student Center Plaza. Students can receive free print-outs of their future from master psychic Tommy Bresadola. The out of this world activities continue through the evening and end with a seance in Marco's.

Students who are looking for a challenge can catch a high on X-Treme Air, which gives participants the opportunity to experience the thrill of sky diving without ever jumping out of a plane.

Activities continue Tuesday with Illusion 'N' Fusion a 3-D motion simulator that will take students beyond this world without leaving the safety of campus. After riding Illusion 'N' Fusion students can have Photo Key Chains made for free on the plaza. Check out the Springfest Carnival which will also be located on the Plaza. Students, faculty and staff are invited to stop by to play games, win prizes and eat cotton candy and sno-cones. Don't forget to participate in the National Crab Racing Contest.

Wednesday, be a star in your very own MTV style video in the MSC cafeteria. Fun Flicks allows participates to dress up in costumes, act like their favorite star and take home a video tape of their performance. The fun continues on Buskirk Field with Zap Attack, a laser tag battle in a fog-filled, eerie portable arena complete with obstacles, remains of a building, surround-sound effects, and a few unexpected surprises.

Students can play virtual reality games Thursday with Cybervision in the MSC Cafeteria. This event lets you be the center of attention in the game of your choice. After Cybervision, try your luck in the Shawkey Room at Casino Night. Various prizes, including sky-diving passes, will be awarded.

Friday, everyone will have the opportunity to enter their beloved animals in a Pet Show. The judging will begin at noon. Award categories include:

Oscar winning performance for best trick, the RuPaul award for best dressed, and the Leonardo DiCaprio award for best-looking.

Springfest will conclude Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Office of Student Activities/FM 106.3 WAMX Anniversary concert featuring national recording artists The Nixons, Mighty Joe Plum, Bugzy, the Wonderful Pills and Luxx at Ritter Park Amphitheater.
