Learning can take shape in many forms and can stem from a variety of sources. The classroom scenes of a professor instilling knowledge in her students is one of the most recognized pictures of learning.
Many professors at Marshall encourage their students to learn in as many different academic arenas as possible. For student JoEllen Jones, that meant going to England as a Foreign Exchange student studying at one of the country's most prestigious university.

Amber Moody and I traveled to Cambridge, England at the end of January to participate in the Study Abroad program.
We were enrolled in a semester program at Anglia Polytechnic University and would spend the semester learning to adapt to many different cultures and educational systems. Some of us adjusted better to the new situation than others, but I believe for each of us this proved to be a great learning experience.
The education at Anglia Polytechnic University was somewhat different from what we as students had been accustomed to at Marshall. Most classes met two times a week once for lecture and once for seminar. In most of the classes, the final grade was based upon one paper only and possibly an exam. I prefer the American University grading system much better.
In addition to experiencing the British culture, we were able to do a great deal of traveling during our three-week Spring Break. We traveled to France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Amsterdam, Scotland, Ireland and to many historic sites around England.
Studying abroad is an unforgettable experience. I personally will never forget living in a house with 12 different people of various nationalities or being at Vatican City with the Pope on Easter Sunday. I would encourage anyone who is interested in traveling abroad for a semester, a year, or just a summer to inquire about such programs offered at Marshall. | ||||||||
