Volunteer Fair

Students given the opportunity to offer their time

Marshall University held their first ever Student Volunteer Fair in the Alumni Lounge of the Memorial Student Center on September 23, 1997.

Organizations such a The Red Cross, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Huntington City Mission and others from the Huntington, Ashland and Ironton community came to campus. Each to search for students who would be willing to volunteer their time to help their respective businesses. The student numbers were small in the beginning, but as the afternoon continued students came in larger

numbers to see what all the excitement was about. In the end, only a few students left the volunteer fair without having picked up some pamphlets of information or signing their names to a couple of rosters agreeing to volunteer their time.

In fact, the volunteer fair was so successful that many students asked when there would be another on campus. The Office of Student Activities is planning on having two organizational volunteer fairs next year, once during the Fall and Spring semesters.
