is maintained by Jack Ellis, MD. Most articles are short and practical, but still professional. The Forum, whose Archive is easily searchable , is like Usenet, but with an innovative and more convenient interface than most news readers have. WorldWide Nursing
has a comprehensive list of links nursing Web sites. Other features such as the Disease list are light on content. The Dogpile
Nursing Acts and Regulations
provides ready access to one of the mostly commonly requested types of information for nursing, Nurse practice laws and standards. Laws and regulations from forty-nine (49) states, "the District of Columbia, and four United States territories: Guam, the Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. The regs for Puerto Rico and the acts and regs for Maryland are not currently available." Access is via a key word search form that works well, except that it crashes on searches that retrieve excessive hits. Don't use common words like nurse or nursing. As the Web site for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing you will also find a a directory of address and phone numbers for State Boards of Nursing. Also information on the NCLEX Nursing Exam

FDA Consumer Drug Information
provides drug data sheets for drugs that have been marketed since Jan. 1998. Sheets duplicate the information that is shipped with the drugs. For Additional information about new drugs, generics, drug shortages, etc. see the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) site.

RxList--The Internet Drug Index
allows the user to search by brand or generic names or class of drug. Use the Asterisk (*) for truncation. Many drug characteristics such as side effects, toxicity, dosing, indications, action, and cautions are given, but descriptions are much shorter than the PDR. The alphabetic list of the Top 200 Prescribed Brand Name Drugs is also available in ranked order. You can search for Interactions between the Top 200 drugs, but the information was not easily accessible.

Hospital Web Pages
has comprehensive lists of hospitals that have Web Pages. You can browse either the US List or the Global Hospitals List. From Harvard-Mass. General Hospital.

Hospital Select and the American Hospital Directory
are similiar with each offering data about American hospitals like number of beds, procedures, average days per stay, cost per stay, annual revenues and profits, and more. Probably it's best to check both sites since each offers statistics on different topics.

List of Children's Hospitals
is arranged by state with links to hospital Web sites.

Quality Check of Accredited Organizations
The Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) accredits 18,000 health care institutions. You can look up the status of a single hospital, long term care center, etc., or search by State, City, or Zip code.

Dirline on Grateful Med (directory of information resources online)
" is the National Library of Medicine's online database containing location and descriptive information about a wide variety if information resources including organizations, research resources, projects, databases, and electronic bulletin boards concerned with health and biomedicine. This information may not be readily available in bibliographic databases. These Information resources fall into many categories including federal, state and local government agencies, information and referral centers, professional societies, self-help groups and voluntary associations, academic and research institutions and their programs, informational systems and research facilities."

Nosocomial Infection Surveillance for Western New York Hospitals
has links to pages for large or small hospitals and nursing homes. Detailed tables give specific infection rates over 5-10 years for many different bacteremia. Also, comments on the importance of nosocomial surveillance. From the University of Buffalo, School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, Division of Infectious Diseases.

International Network for Interfaith Health Practices
"IHP-NET is an Internet electronic forum for dialogue and resource sharing among persons of all religious traditions, regarding the dynamic relationship between spirituality and health, especially its practical expression in the advancement of human wellness. IHP-NET is a joint project of The Interfaith Health Program of the Carter Center (Atlanta, Georgia) and the Congregational Nurse Program of Saint Francis Hospital of Evanston, Illinois."

links to numerous high quality sites. Its largest section is called "Medical Textbooks" but it contains mostly graphically-rich tutorials that are produced by faculty at various Universities.

Virtual Medical Center
by Jim Martindale has numerous links to Multimedia courses in all biomedical fields, including nursing, allied health, pharmacy, dentistry, public health, and veterinary science. Links are well annotated. Also, you will find a great general Reference Page

Visible Human Project
displays sample images from a complete file of human cross sections and gives licensing information for loading on local servers. Includes images from both male and female cadavers.

NLM Online Exhibitions
include images from the History of Medicine, Art and Medicine, a tour of the National Library of Medicine, and even a mpeg airplane ride over the NLM area. Also, see the Alphabetical Listing of Exhibits .

Whole Brain Atlas
is an outstanding collection of MRI slices that the user chooses by moving a graduated scroll device along an outline of the brain. From Harvard.
