National Library of Medicine is responsible for creating and maintaining Medline and other biomedical databases. It has most of its documentation, factsheets, etc online. Search the NLM Server to find specific information. NLM sponsors many medical informatics programs via the National center for Biotechnolgy Information. Other notable projects include the Visible Human.
- Cochrane Library
- is probably the top primary resource for evidence-based medicine. Access is by subscription only. Users at Marshall workstations should be able to access Cochrane data.
- National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC)
- "is a comprehensive database of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and related documents produced by the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR), in partnership with the American Medical Association (AMA) and the American Association of Health Plans (AAHP).
The NGC mission is to provide physicians, nurses, and other health professionals, health care providers, health plans, integrated delivery systems, purchasers and others an accessible mechanism for obtaining objective, detailed information on clinical practice guidelines and to further their dissemination, implementation and use."
Guidelines are contributed by many different organizations. The highly structured format of the text of each guideline allows for a tabular comparison of guidelines that the user selects. A very nice feature.
- NIH Consensus Development Program
- Read complete NIH Consensus Statements online or download in PDF format. Select from lists that are arranged by subject or date.
- Hardin Bioterrorism Page

has about 15 links to other lists of resources.
- CDC Bioterrorism Page
- has a variety of information for health care professionals and the public: recent advisories, descriptions of programs, information on detection and treatment of diseases.
- Institute of Medicine
- of the National Academy of Sciences conducts and reports on many controversial health related topics. Frequently, its reports are available online.
- Surgeon General's Reports
- Actually has full-text of all types of publications including articles, bibliographies, phamplets, etc., but the Reports are to most valuable. You can browse them in both alphabetic and chronologic lists or use the Search Page.

Medical Matrix
- The Medical Matrix Project
- " is devoted to posting, annotating, and continuously updating "full content, unrestricted access, Internet clinical medicine resources." Our target audience is primarily United States physicians and healthworkers who are on the front line in prescribing treatment for disease conditions."
The Medical Matrix Project assigns ranks to Internet resources based on their utility for point of care clinical application. Quality, peer review, full content, multimedia features, and unrestricted access are emphasized in the rankings. Browse large lists sub-divided by medical speciality or use search engine.

Hardin Meta Directory
- is a list of lists for numerous medical specialities. A user can quickly find many quality links to all sorts of medical and medically related topics. Only sites whose references link to an active site 80% of the time are included. From the University of Iowa.
- HealthWeb
- is maintained by a consortium of health science libraries in the Midwest. Each library specializes in a few medical disciplines. All pages are linked to each other and follow a uniform format, so they appear to be one site. HealthWeb received a grant from the National Library of Medicine to help improve this service.
- Reuters Health Information Service
- is useful to both professionals and health care consumers. Has daily, In-depth news about basic science discoveries, clinical reports, current legislation, law, economic clinical affairs, and professional concerns. Most articles are summaries from professional journals and are stronger in scientific content than other news-type health services. T
