- The
Garden Gate
- is one of the nicest homepages on the Web. Karen Fletcher from
Prairienet has compiled a marvelous list of links covering all aspects
of gardening; growing, plant selection, garden design, gardens for
travelers, even virtual tours of famous gardens.
- US Department of Agriculture Web Links
- Ohio State University Extension Office
- has links to all of the County Extension offices.
- Cornell Extension Service
- Scott's Botanical Links
- selects about twenty links a month that will interest gardeners. Most selections are strong on content and many graphically sophesticated. The annotations accurately describe the content and features of links.
- WebGarden
- has a number of useful features: The
WebGarden Factsheet Database has over 5,000 links from 44 Extension Services sites across the US and Canada in one database. Very handy for either home or commercial horticulture. You can limit your search by region, document format (PDF, HTML, TXT). Only title words of the factsheet are searchable. A plant dictionary of more than 1,000 images and an almanac are also available.
-
Entomology Index of Internet Resources
- from Iowa State University offers three access methods to Net information about insects. Search a database of world-wide web sites, gopher, FTP,
Usenet news, and electronic mailing lists or choose from a long (125k) or short category list.
Beekeeping, pest mangement, pesticides, insect collections, and images are just a few of the available topics. The Image Gallery has excellent photos for identifying insects and has links to information on insect pest control. However, it focuses on field crops.
Direct Links to Information

- EXTOXNET - EXtension TOXicology NETwork
- has comprehensive toxicological information about most pesticides that are used by gardeners. Search for a chemical or browse long lists of compounds. EXTOXNET is a cooperative effort of University of California-Davis, Oregon State University, Michigan State University, Cornell University, and the University of Idaho.
- FlowerBase Power Pictures
- is "a database offering over 7,000 pictures of flowers, plants and garden
plants" and is a colaboration between Glasshouse Business Networks and Pictura Nobilis. You can search for a plant photo in seven languages including Latin, English, German, Dutch, French, Italian, or Spanish. Mostly pictures of blooms (usually not the whole plant) with no textual information.
- AARS Award Winning Roses
- describes the growth habits of all 137 rose varieties that have won the coveted AARS award since 1940. There are images for all varieties since 1980, but only a few before then. There are also short pages on purchasing and growing roses. You can also find the addresses of AARS approved rose gardens, which are open to the public.
- Cos of Haarlem Tulip Book Facsimile
- contains images of 54 tulip varieties and 21 images of carnations from the 1637 manuscript. Prices and weights of the bulbs from the era of the tulipmania bubble are included. From the Wageningen Agricultural University Library (Netherlands).

By Michael Moore from the Southwest School of Botanical Medicine.
- Cyberbotanica
- currently has only one chapter, plants used in cancer chemotherpy. Additional chapters on bioremediation, fungi which produce antibiotics, and genetically engineered fruits and vegetables are in production. By Lucy Snyder of Indiana University's BioTech Project.
