Lists of Journals and Newspapers and Translators

Priodici Biomedici - Biomedical Journals with Web Sites
is the easiest way to find Biomedical journals with Web sites. The very large list indicates whether sites have full-text, tables of contents, abstract, or selective access. The FT (full-text) code indicates that the full-text of a journal is available without providing an access code. Produced by the Università degli Studi di Cagliari at the Biblioteca Centrale dell'Area Biomedica.

Free Online Full-text Articles at Highwire
includes journals with free back issues usually 1-2 years after publication.

Also, see the Earth's Largest Free Full-Text Science Archives is an annotated list of sites that offer a significant number of physical, biomedical, or behavioral science journals with online, full-text, and free access.

PubMed Central
" is a digital archive of life sciences journal literature managed by the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM). It is not a journal publisher. Access to PubMed Central (PMC) is free and unrestricted." Currently, archives of 13 journals are available on site, but there are links to journal sites with free full-text. Current issues may be restricted depending on the journal. (2/6/02)

Directory of Electronic Health Sciences Journals
gives more information about each journal than Priodici Biomedici above, including journal web site, access charges, starting year and volume of full-text availablity, whether indexed in Medline, publisher, and publisher Web site. However, Priodici Biomedici lists significantly more journals.

This site covers "electronic versions of key English language peer-reviewed print journals in clinical medicine, biomedical research, nursing and allied health." It also has a nice list of publisher sites and advice for managing access to online journals. Produced by the Southern Health Network Library Service, Monash Medical Centre, Clayton Australia.

Full-Text Online Journals at Marshall University Libraries
is an alphabetical list of nearly all online journals which Marshall users can access. Usally the links are not directly to full-text journals, but rather to databases that have links to articles and tables of contents of full-text online journals. It's not uncommon to see duplicate links to journal titles. This occurs when a journal is available from more than one database vendor.

Online Full-Text Articles from the Marshall Health Science Library
lists about 50 biomedical journals that have full-text access from a workstation on the Marshall campus.

JSTOR History and Social Science Journals
has full text and large back files of about 120 journals. Titles, abstracts, authors, and even full-text words are searchable. Plans are in the works to have science journals back to the starting volumes.

Journals on Subscription at Marshall Libraries
Doesn't include the Health Sciences Library.

Number of Titles Currently Indexed for Index Medicus and MEDLINE on PubMed
also breaks out counts for journal subsets and links to the List of Serials Indexed for Online Users and journals recently added to the indexing list.

Finding a List of MEDLINE Journal Titles
gives detailed instructions. From NLM.

Publist
claims to be "the most comprehensive directory of information about more than 150,000 publications and more than 8000 newspapers around the world." Test searches of this site turned up very few big city newspapers. Also, the web links to Web sites are not hypertext and some links were incorrect. It draws on Ulrich's International Periodicals Directory for its comprehensive information. Users can search by title, ISBN, subject or publisher.

Finding a List of MEDLINE Journals by Subject
consists of instructions on how to do a customized search in LocatorPlus, the NLM Catalog. The written instructions are harder to follow than the image at the bottom of the page.

Survey of STM Online Journals 1990-95
Steve Hitchcock, Leslie Carr and Wendy Hall of the Multimedia Research Group at University of Southampton discuss the characteristics and future of science, technology, and medicine journals in electronic formats. Includes tables and an extensive bibliography of links.
