Medline Abbreviation

Most abbreviations of journal titles are those used in Medline or other National Library of Medicine NLM Databases. A small portion of journals in the list are not contained in NLM's lists. Abbreviations for non-NLM titles are listed in all lower case. The first letter of each word is capitalized, if the abbreviation was available in NLM records. Rules for creating both NLM and non-NLM abbreviations are similar. NLM abbreviations have been verified in PubMed or NLM Serial Lists. Non-NLM abbreviations were verified in Ebsco's Serial Directory

First Volume

This column indicates the first volume in the Library's holdings for a particular journal. Generally, holdings are complete from the First Volume to the Last Volume, but there are gaps.

Last Volume

This column indicates the last volume in the Library's holdings for a particular journal. Generally, holdings are complete from the First Volume to the Last Volume, but there are gaps. If the Last Volume column is blank then the Library's holdings include the currently published Volume.

First Year

This column indicates the First Year in the Library's holdings for a particular journal. Generally, holdings are complete from the First Year to the Last Year, but there are gaps.

Issues

Indicates whether all issues starting from the first archival year are available. Possible values are All Issues, Current Issue, or Past Issues.

Last Year

This column indicates the Last Year in the Library's holdings for a particular journal. Generally, holdings are complete from the First Year to the Last Year, but there are gaps. If the Last Year column is blank then the Library's holdings include the currently published Year.

HSL

indicates the journal holdings of the Marshall University Health Sciences Library by volume number. A Dash and a blank indicates that holdings run from the Volume number indicated up to the current volume.

VAMC

indicates the journal holdings of the Huntington Veterans Administration Medical Center by volume number. A Dash and a blank indicates that holdings run from the Volume number indicated up to the current volume.

Notes

applies to any of the holding libraries. Generally gaps in holdings are enumerated. For example, HVAC missing 10(1,4-5),11-13 means that the Huntington VA is missing issues 1 and 4 through 5 of volume 10 and also missing a all issues of volumes 11 through 13.
