Reference works include the Columbia Encyclopedia, Roget's II Thesaurus, Grays Anatomy, Farmer's Cookbook, and many other works.

- Statistical Abstract of the United States - 1997-1999
- Pages look just like the printed version using Acrobat (PDF) formats. Very comprehensive coverage, including: health, demography, vital statistics, socioeconomic data, agriculture, commerce, industry, science, etc. Each of the 31 chapters is downloaded and displayed separately. The front html page shows the sequence of table numbers for each Chapter. The index shows table numbers, not page numbers.
- Economic Statistics Briefing Room
- is a well presented display of the most commonly requested statistics about, output, Income, employment, unemployment, earning, production and business activity, prices, money, transportation, and international statistics.
Each entry includes a thumbnail graph which links to a full screen version. It's produced by the Whitehouse, but there are links to the agency which is responsible for collecting and publishing the data.
- Social Statistics Briefing Room
- looks just like the Economics Briefing Room above, but covers crime , demography, health, and education.
- County City Data Book
- is a standard reference that is now available on the Web. The user builds a request form for a list of states, cities or counties and specific types of statistics by working through a series of menus. The data range is broad; starting with population and including housing, income, health, work, commerce, agriculture, and government. Data from the 1988 and 1994 editions are searched separately. - State and Metropolitan Area Data Book - 5th Edition
- has population, housing, labor, income, and demographic data. Most data was reported for 1995-96.
- West Virginia Vital and Health Statistics
- has Birth, Death, Marriage, Divorce, and population data by entire state and counties. Provided by the State Health Statistics Center.
- Digest of Education Statistics
- is an unabridged Web version of the 1996 statistics from the The U.S. Department of Education's National Center for Education Statistics. All type of statistics for all levels of education are include, even comparisons with foreign countries. There are over 400 high-quality tables and graphs. Data is current as of the 1994-95 year.

Data Briefs report on surveys of current scientific activities and issues . Many NSF Publications are online including Science & Engineering Indicators - 1996, which is a basic resource for socioeconomic studies of science. NSF publications are available in either HTML or PDF formats.
- Food & Agriculture Organization (FAO) Statistical Databases
- allow the user to custom build graphs or tables reporting population, land use, or crop and animal production for any of the World's countries and regions. If the system responds with an error message, just click on the submit button a second time to get the requested table.
- Agriculture Fact Book 1998
- has text and charts about cost of food, what Americans eat, land use, agricultural economics, rural socioeconomic data, rural development, USDA operations, food, safety, nutrition, marketing and regulation, and consumer information. You can Download the entire Fact Book (277 pages) in PFD format. The Fact Book 1997 is also available.
- Census of Agriculture 1997
- has summary data for the county level for farm size, number of full-time farms, dollar value of production, acres in production. Also, a catalog of data publications and ordering information.

has a Zip Code +4 look-up form search. The user fills in the City and State and either the Street address or Company name. The search returns the 9 Digit Zip, plus the street address for the Company. No retrieval for names. Also, postal rates and other postal information.

- has the numbers and addresses from all white pages books in the US, 90 million people and 10 million businesses. Search form includes last and first names, city, and state. If you type in a city you must type in the two letter state code.
Since data comes from Database America files, unlisted or recently activated numbers are not included. Users my correct, delete, or add entries for their numbers by registering. There are safe guards to prevent tampering with records, but Switchboard admits that they are not full proof. Names will not be sold to mail order organizations and automatic capture of data is blocked, but your name and number is on the Web for anyone to see and use.
Users can do reverse phone number or address searches at Infospace. The address search is challenging because of the lack of standardization in abbreviations.
- AT&T's Toll-Free Telephone Number Index
- can be browsed or searched by company name or 800 number. You may also browse a list of subject categories. Of course, 800 numbers from MCI and Sprint, and other service providers will not be represented here.
- Braintrack University Index
- lists the web sites of universities, colleges, community colleges, polytechnics, etc. world wide. Browse through a geographic arrangement or type in a search.
- ERIC- National Library of Education
- describes ERIC resources and links to sites where you can search the ERIC Databases
- ERIC at Syracuse is one of those sites. ERIC is the premier resource for education and related topics. You can leave questions for experts to respond to on the Ask ERIC Q&A Form or search the ERIC database . (Search Hint: The search form will not display retrieved citations when using Netscape 2.x or America Online. A maxium of 40 citations can be displayed for one search.) - by Michael Moncur allows users to search 10 different quotation sites, including his own, but only one at a time. The Advanced Search searches all 10 together. Covers quotations from literature, historical characters, and current personalities.
- Bartlett's Quotations
- allows you to search on a words from quotations or authors.
- The Oxford Book of English Verse
- is a full-text version of the 1919 edition, edited by Sir Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch, which contains poetry written by 883 different authors who lived from the Thirteenth Century to the end of the Nineteenth Century. There are chronological, author, title, and first line indexes. A key word search is handy for finding which verses belong to which poems.

- has about 110,000 words. Use the same form to input words in either language and systems returns definitions for both languages. Very handy.

- takes full advantage of the HTML Frames feature to make finding a prize winner very easy. You can call up chronologic or alphabetic lists of winners in the 6 prize categories: Physics, Chemistry, Economics, Literature, Peace, and Physiology-Medicine. Also, search for any winner across categories. Basic information about the winner's birthdate, residence, affiliation, reason for winning, and links to additional information are displayed over a fancy background that interfers with easy reading.
