What is the Carl Uncover Service?

Uncover is a document delivery service. Users search and order journal articles on the Web. Most articles will be faxed directly to the user's fax machine or fax modem within a 24 hour time span. A relatively small number of articles are available in an electronic format. An even smaller number of articles can be delivered within one hour via Uncover Express. See the Uncover FAQ

Who can use the Marshall Uncover Gateway?

Marshall Faculty, Staff, and Graduate or Medical Students.

When should Uncover be used?

Uncover is similar to the traditional InterLibrary Loan service that the Library offers. The chart below will help you decide when to use Uncover and when to use InterLibrary Loan. Uncover offers two unique features.

• Guaranteed 24 hour delivery by fax.

• No fee is paid by the user as long as no Marshall Library holds the journal title that was ordered.

  Users who order items that are held by a Marshall library will be billed for all Uncover charges. Uncover automatically checks the holdings of Marshall Libraries and will block orders from these journals. At the start of the project Health Science Library holdings were not in the MILES database, so it is possible to order from journals in the HSL collection without being blocked. Until HSL holdings are entered, users are responsible for checking HSL holdings manually on the HSL Holdings Web page.

Users affliated with the School of Medicine may order articles costing up to $40 dollars each. Users can order items that exceed the $40 limit or are blocked for other reasons by supplying their own credit card number.
