Each semester Marshall University enrolls and serves many students with a wide range of disabilities. Marshall and its faculty are renown for their willingness to work with students needing academic accommodations. We applaud your willingness to assist students as they make the transition of having things done for them to meeting with faculty, asking for accommodations and making necessary adjustments. On this page we offer suggestions that may help you and your students make this transition as smooth as possible.<\/p>\n

If you have questions, concerns or questions concerning accommodations please call us at #2271 for assistance at any time.<\/p>\n

  • Ask any student who may need special assistance to contact you sometime during the first week of school. You may want to include a statement about this on your syllabus.<\/li>\n
  • Students should have documentation to support the special assistance they are requesting. If they do not, we suggest you send them to our office, the HELP Program or the Student Athlete Program offices to request a letter be sent to their instructors listing any accommodations they are requesting.<\/li>\n
  • If a student with a disability needs assistance, do not hesitate to approach them. If the students does not need assistance, they will let you know.<\/li>\n
  • If your coursework requires field trips, labs, internships, field placements, lengthy reading assignments, or extensive library research, and you have questions about how to handle these issues with students with disabilities please contact our office for assistance.<\/li>\n
  • Be certain that a student with a disability is held responsible for equivalent learning in comparison to other students.<\/li>\n
  • Be creative in thinking of alternative methods to teaching and evaluation. Our team is available to help if needed.<\/li>\n
  • Absences due to a student’s disability can not be counted against them. Please give them the opportunity to make up missed assignments or tests.
